What’s on the job?

  • Be a part of the     mechanical design team that is developing the next generation of CO2  capture multidisciplinary technology involving fluid flow,  electrochemistry, control and process development.
  • Perform advanced mechanical design and simulations, including fluid flow, mechanical     stress, and electric conductivity analysis of materials and components.
  • Be responsible for devising prototype concepts and take them to mass production.
  • Collaborate with extremely diverse team – researchers, process engineers, chemists, technicians and     lab assistants, across R&D, system engineering, and operations.
  • Operate effectively  in a fast-paced, agile startup environment with rapidly evolving goals
  • Roll up your     sleeves—whether it’s testing components yourself or troubleshooting on the     production floor, show us you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree  in mechanical engineering or a related field (M.Sc.- an advantage).
  • Minimum of 5 years  of hands-on experience in mechanical design and development.
  • Experience with 3D  printing (SLS & SLA), machining and sheet metal     fabrication; Plastics manufacturing experience is an advantage.    
  • Proficiency with CFD and FEA structural analysis.
  • Employment Experience  in a startup/ a highly dynamic environment - an advantage.
  • Team-oriented, can-do attitude, innovative thinker.

Position #12 :Head of R&D –Electrochemical DAC Start-Up

RepAir is a pioneering startup specializing in electrochemical CO₂ capture technology and is currently advancing into the scale-up phase. Our technology is designed for gigaton-scale impact, positioning RepAir at the forefront of the shift toward a carbon-negative future. Delivering a highly efficient, sustainable carbon removal solution, our fully electric process requiresminimal energy, operates without solvents, and produces no hazardous waste. Asa fast-growing company, we are seeking an experienced and visionary Head of R&D to lead our research and development efforts to push the boundariesof electrochemical DAC [Carbon-Capture] technologies.

 

Position Overview:

As the Head of R&D, you will be responsible for leading and executing our R&D efforts and ensuring the advancement of our electrochemically based carbon capture technology. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and business leaders to innovate, prototype, and scale our solutions. You will also play a critical role in shaping the future of our technology portfolio and collaborating with external stakeholders such as academic partners, investors, and regulatory bodies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

·        Direct the company’s R&D Strategy.

·        Develop and drive the R&D to advance electrochemical carbon capture technology from early-stage concepts to scalable, commercially viable solutions.

·        Oversee the design and execution of experiments, simulations, and testing to validate and advance new electrochemical systems and materials for CO2 capture.

·        Lead and mentor a diverse R&D team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and learning.

·        Spearhead the discovery of new materials, processes, and technologies that enhance the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of CO2 capture systems.

·        Collaborate with engineering teams to transition promising R&D concepts into pilot projects and eventually scalable CO2capture systems.

·        Stay abreast of industry trends, new research, and advancements in electrochemistry, carbon capture, and climate technologies.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

·        Work closely with the CTO and executive leadership to align R&D priorities with business goals and funding opportunities.

·        Partner with product development, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of R&D outcomes into scalable products.

 

Resource Management & Budgeting:

·        Manage the R&D budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to meet strategic objectives.

·        Oversee the development of project plans,timelines, and milestones, and ensure that R&D activities are executedwithin scope and deadlines.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

·        PhD in Electrochemistry, Physics, ChemicalEngineering, Materials Science, or a related field.              

 

Experience:

·        10+ years of experience in electrochemical, CO2capture or energy technology development, including at least 5 years in aleadership role.

·        Proven track record of leading successful R&D teams in the development of novel technologies, ideally in the areas of CO2capture, batteries, electrolyzers, fuel cells, flow cells or energy storage.

·        Proven experience in scaling laboratory prototypes to pilot and commercial products - Must

·        Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to energy and climate technologies.

 

Skills & Competencies:

·        Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and manage a high-performing, multidisciplinary team.

·        Excellent problem-solving abilities with a hands-on approach to tackling complex technical challenges.

·        Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex ideas to diverse audiences, including investors, regulators, and technical teams.

·        Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a results-oriented mindset.
